GST Registration Documents Checklist 2026 | Complete List for Delhi NCR
It should take a couple of days to apply for a GST number. “In reality, most first-time applicants are stalled for two to three weeks because they upload the wrong documents, forget to sign something or choose the wrong proof of address. “The GST portal doesn’t tell you exactly which paper it wants until an officer sends a query back,” he said.
This 2026 checklist corrects that. It consists of real applications that we have filled in Laxmi Nagar, Preet Vihar, Nirman Vihar, Noida, Ghaziabad and other part of Delhi. You get the exact document list for each business type, with the little formatting guidelines that officers actually look at.
If you are in a hurry read the Quick Answer Box Below. Read the complete guide to file once and be accepted.
What documents do I need for GST registration in 2026?
You need four types of documents:
1. PAN and aadhaar of proprietor, partners or directors

What Is GST Registration Documents Checklist?
GST Registration is the procedure of acquiring a 15 Digit GSTIN (Goods and Services Tax Identification Number) from the government. Once registered, your business can collect GST from consumers, claim input tax credit on purchases and file reports monthly or quarterly.
You need to register for GST if your annual revenue exceeds the threshold limit, if you are selling beyond state boundaries, if you are selling on an e-commerce platform like Amazon or Flipkart or if you are exporting products or services. Many businesses actively register to obtain input tax credit and appear more legitimate to larger consumers, even when they fall below the threshold.
GST Registration Stats
Business Type | Threshold Limit | Applies To |
Goods (Normal states) | Rs. 40 lakh | Most states including Delhi |
Goods (Special category states) | Rs. 20 lakh | North-east, hill states |
Services (Normal states) | Rs. 20 lakh | All states |
Services (Special category states) | Rs. 10 lakh | North-east, hill states |
E-commerce sellers | Rs. 0 (mandatory) | Any turnover |
Inter-state suppliers | Rs. 0 (mandatory) | Any turnover |
The Importance of Using this Checklist in 2026
GST system became increasingly stringent every year. By 2026, CBIC made Aadhaar authentication as the default process for new applicants. This process is quicker, but it is also much more rigid. Your entire application gets stuck if the mobile number associated with your Aadhaar is inactive.
The officers also started comparing the address in the electricity bill with that in the rent agreement during the same session. Absence of pin code, incorrect flat number, and landlord name which doesn’t match with the name of the owner in the property tax document would initiate a query. Such query would push your application towards the bottom of the list.
Preparation of your documents correctly at once is the only thing you need to do if you want to save yourself 2 weeks and avoid paying rush fees to somebody else to rectify your application which was rejected earlier.
Advantages of Preparing Your Documents Correctly in One Go
• GST approval within 7 working days, instead of 21 or even more.
• No queries from the GST officer going to and fro.
• Save yourself the trouble of waiting until you get GSTIN approved in order to invoice your customers.
• No risks of having your application fully rejected, which would mean starting all over again.
• Ability to claim input tax credit from the very first day on all your business purchases.
• Presenting yourself as an organized business entity before the bigger clients who require GST certificate before signing up with you.

Mistakes That Need to Be Avoided In GST Registration Documents Checklist
1. Old electricity bill. Any bill older than 2 months will prompt further inquiries.
2. Untypically notarized rent agreement. In the GST portal, a regular typed agreement is inadequate.
3. Mismatch in the address in the rent agreement and the electricity bill. Even missing one digit in the floor number will result in failure.
4. Incorrect choice of HSN or SAC codes while making the application. The document checklist is perfect; only the choice of code is erroneous.
5. The selection of ‘Regular’ scheme instead of ‘Composition’ scheme (or vice versa). This is not a documentation issue but rather structural one.
6. Failure to sign the authorization letter or board resolution. Unsigned or un-dated resolutions are considered invalid.
7. Skip Aadhaar authentication step. This makes the officer carry out physical verification on his own, adding up 15-21 days to the process.
