GST Guide for Delhi NCR Businesses 2026 | Registration, Filing & Compliance

If you run a business somewhere in Delhi NCR, GST is not optional paperwork. It’s the tax system that determines if you can legally sell to other businesses, claim credit on what you buy, and not have a knock on the door from the department. And in 2026, GST is more automated and tighter than ever.
This guide is your one stop destination for all things GST, created especially for businesses in Laxmi Nagar, Preet Vihar, Nirman Vihar, Noida and Ghaziabad. Whether you are registering for the first time, filing your monthly return, cancelling a GSTIN you no longer use or responding to a notice that just hit your inbox, this page connects you to the right guide.

What Is GST?

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is an indirect tax imposed on the supply of goods and services in India . It replaced many former taxes (VAT, service tax, excise, entry tax) with one unified system in 2017. All businesses above the threshold must register, collect GST from customers and pay it to the government after claiming credit for GST already paid on purchases.
In India , GST has 3 parts . CGST and SGST ( for sales within the same state ) and IGST ( for sales between states . ) For instance, a shop in Laxmi Nagar sells to a customer in Ghaziabad and charges IGST, even if the distance is a few kilometres, because for GST, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh are different states.

Why GST Guide for Delhi NCR Businesses Matters in 2026 ?

This year, three things changed the GST landscape for small and mid-size businesses in Delhi NCR. Firstly, the barrier for e-invoicing was lowered to Rs 5 crore, therefore, bringing a large number of traders and wholesalers under required e-invoicing. Second, input tax credit is now tightly aligned with GSTR-2B, which means your credit is completely dependent on your supplier filing correctly. Third, the department’s AI-based mismatch detection finds errors in days, not months.
For a region like Delhi NCR where enterprises routinely sell across the Delhi-Noida-Ghaziabad borders, getting the state-wise tax treatment and filing discipline right is not optional. One false call on CGST/SGST vs IGST on an invoice might cause a mismatch that takes weeks to fix.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who needs to register for GST in Delhi NCR?

Any firm with turnover above Rs. 40 lakh (goods) or Rs. 20 lakh (services), any inter-state seller, any e-commerce seller and any exporter has to register irrespective of turnover.

Delhi and Uttar Pradesh (Noida, Ghaziabad) are two different states for GST however GST tax rates are uniform across the country. Sales between them are inter-state supplies and taxed with IGST instead of CGST+SGST.

GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B are filed by most of the businesses on a monthly basis, or quarterly under the QRMP scheme for turnover up to Rs. 5 crore.

GST is levied on the amount of tax remaining unpaid and late fees are charged on a daily basis. Continued failure to file may result in suspension or deletion of GSTIN.

Only if your turnover is below the threshold AND you do not sell inter-state, on e-commerce platforms, or export. Most growing businesses will eventually need to register.
